PHAGWARA: Former Canadian MP Gurmant Singh Grewal was given a rousing reception at Kings Travel Hub, Phagwara, March 20, a press note said.

Mand hailed Grewal for having won an MP in Canada for three times.

He said that the then Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper had given Grewal the title of “Iron Man of the Parliament”.

“Grewal and his wife Nina Grewal have earned the enviable distinction of being the first married couple in Canadian history to concurrently serve as federal MPs in 2004,” said Mand.

He said that Grewal had made a name not only in business but also in politics in Canada, thus bringing laurels for Indians, particularly Punjabis.

Addressing the gathering, Grewal said that both the Canadian people and government were always ready to welcome Punjabis.

”I and my wife have made efforts to ease the visa regime for Indians. We feel happy in solving problems of Indians, especially Punjabis,” he stated.

Belonging to Barundi in Punjab and settled in Surrey, British Columbia, in Canada, Grewal assured that the Canadian government will continue to keep its doors open for Indians.
