CHICAGO: The American Multi-Ethnic Coalition (AMEC. launched another trailblazer initiative for multi-ethnic students, a Scholarship of U. S. $2,000 dollars plus an AMEC plaque.
The LITA NEWTON DEVASAHAYAM STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP, which will be awarded annually, was endowed by Mrs Cynthia and Dr VGPrabhakar in memory of Ms Cynthia Prabhakar’s mother Mrs Lita Newton Devasahayam.
The first recipient,Kelvin Darshan Thomas of Fenwick High School, Oak Park was presented the USD$2,000 Check and a plaque this evening at The Geethanjali Maru Concert ‘21 at Big Suchir Banquets, Downers Grove, IL.
Kelvin Dharsan Thomas was awarded the scholarship in recognition of his academic excellence, proficiency in Basketball and community service. Kelvin’s father , Thomas is African American and mother, Mika Shastri is Indian American.
The Host Abir Maru applauded Mrs Cynthia Prabhakar and Dr. Vijay G. Prabhakar for the unique manner they made an endowment to keep their mother’s Lita Newton’ legacy alive for years to come.Naperville City Commissioner Shree Gurusamy read the commendation. Lion Hina Trivedi, Founder congratulated young Kelvin Thomas for receiving this prestigious scholarship.AMEC Global Outreach Chair Anica Dubey said, Kelvyn Thomas is truly multi ethnic and a rising basketball star in Midwest.
Geethanjali Maru and ParthIyer rocked with their songs from 1980s and 1990s. Nightingale of Chicagoland Pratibha Jairath mesmerized the audience with her singing . Many guests attended the event Geethanjali Maru Live Concert 2021 included Vinita Gulabani , Dr Vasavi Chakka & Sudhakar Chakka, Sunil Shah,Bhupendra &AnitaBeti , Girish Kapur, SeeniGurusamy, Acharya Rohit Joshi, Amar Uphadyay, Johnny Pedapatti, VijenderDoma,Hitesh Gandhi, Hema Shastri , among others.
The 2022 Lita Newton Devasahayam Student Scholarship will be awarded at the 11th Dr VGP Annual Global Community Oscars on Saturday January 8,2022.
