Amit and Sumeet Kishore dazzle audience at Meadows Club

CHICAGO: It really started very late – around 10 pm to the disappointment of many but the way the two singing stars – Amit and Sumit Kishore – conducted themselves, singing one after other the popular hits of Kishore Kumar, no member of the 800 plus audience would leave the program half way thru or regret getting late.

The musical concert ‘Do Kishore,’ a tribute to the legendary Indian singing star Kishore Kumar was conceptualized by Bubble Wrap Communications and was hosted by Metropolitan Asian Family Services (MAFS) in its bid to raise funds for its various activities. In retrospect, MAFS headed by Ms. Santosh Kumar could not have decided any better.
Complimented by one of the best orchestras in Bollywood today, a capacity audience was mesmerized by the scions of the legend, Amit Kumar and Sumeet Kumar, as they took the audience on an emotional journey through the career of Kishore Kumar.
The start was with the presentation of humorous clippings of some old movies of Kishore Kumar. Thereafter came the Do (two) Kishores – Amit & Sumeet – on the stage. And they went on to put on a performance which will be talked about for a long time.
Amit Kumar, a veteran singer of Bollywood, has inherited the melodies, music and the madness of his great father. And this was evident in his command performance, as he took the audience on a roller coaster ride through the life of Kishore Kumar. Interspersed with anecdotes and mimicry of the legendary singer’s interactions with the great music directors of yore, Amit Kumar scintillated in his renditions of hits like, Mana janaab ne pukaara nahin, Mere sapnon ki rani, Roop tera mastana, Aise na mujhe tum dekho. His rendition of Roop tera mastana with all the maddening diversions and stage pyrotechnics brought the house down, repeatedly. And then there was an unplugged version of a medley of hits which he performed with Sumeet Kumar, which was nostalgia all over.
Sumeet Kumar, the much younger of the two sons, also regaled the audience with his renditions of Zindagi ka safar, Bachana ai haseenon, Chala jaata hoon and many more duets with his brother. He had the audience clapping and singing with him.
