Gurdas Mann coming to Chicago

CHICAGO: Gurdas Maan, a highly admired singer from Punjab, will be at Copernicus Center in Chicago on August 12 for a concert “Ki Banu Duniya Da” with live orchestra presenting Punjabi folk, Sufi and Bollywood music.

A songwriter, choreographer and actor, Gurdas Mann sings live with musicians and with no technological assistance for four-hour durations at times. He has recorded 34 albums, written over 305 songs, worked with legends like Jagjit Singh, and is now connected to MTV Coke Studio India.

He shot to fame with his hit song ‘Dil Da Mamla Hai’. Soon after came ‘Mamla Gadbad Hai’ and ‘Chhalla’, and most recently ‘Ki Banu Duniya Da’. In 2013 he announced the launch of his YouTube channel to stay connected with his fans via video blogs and old as well as new music videos.

Maan received an honorary degree of Doctor of Music from the University of Wolverhampton in 2010. His most noted films are Waris Shah-Ishq Da Waaris and Shaheed-E-Mohabbat.

This particular show is completely different from what he has done before, according to Dr. Siraj Ahmed of DCA, President and Founder of Deccan Cultural Academy, Savi Singh of Starz Entertainment and Anoop Mamtani of Atlantic Travels, the organizers . The show is also sponsored by Chicago Motor Cars, Qatar Airways, Holiday Inn and many other businesses.
