CHICAGO: The Hindu Swayam Sevak Sangh (HSS) USA on Raksha Bandhana ceremony (a sister tying a string – Rakhi around her brother’s wrist as a symbol of her affection) was performed last week by Ms. MaitriHegde, HSS Chicago volunteer tying Raksha on Congressman Danny Davis and Rainbow Push Coalition’s Global Ambassador Dr. Vijay G Prabhakar at UIC campus.

Kiran Gajendran, A lead Volunteer of HSS Chicago said the HSS celebrates this occasion at a societal level to reaffirm their social and civic responsibilities to support and protect the community that we are part of.

Shishir Shetty, HSS Chicago Volunteer said that HSS USA aims to coordinate the Hindu American Community to practice, preserve and advance the ideals and values of Dharma.

Ms. Maitri Hegde, HSS Chicago Volunteer who tied the Rakhis explained HSS’s mission to conduct regular value based education programs and organize Service oriented community outreach projects. Congressman Danny Davis and his wife Vera Davis acknowledged the work of HSS USA through more than 220 branches nationwide.

Dr. Vijay GPrabhakar noted that Hindu religion is one of tolerance and the values of Dharma are noteworthy.

HSS USA as part of their inclusive Community outreach are honoring elected officials and Community leaders during this Raksha Bandhana season – loosely translated as the “ Protection Connection “ as a festival reaffirming the relationship between sisters and brothers.
