I am votary of doing social service: Som Parkash

PHAGWARA:  “I am votary of doing social service by rising above politics and has been pursuing politics of principles since long,” Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Som Parkash said during a function of an NGO July 13.

Parkash, who was the chief guest at the function, appreciated profusely Sarb Naujawan Sabha and Chardikala Sikh Organisation, UK, for their project of ‘Sikhiya de Sitarey, Khoj te Vikas’(Stars of Education,Research and Development) under which scholarships, uniforms, stationery and other study material were distributed to 30 adopted school students from government schools.

These students were from classes 7 to 12.

Parkash lauded the project, saying that by helping students the Sabha was contributing to building the future of the nation.

Phagwara SDM Jai Inder Singh, who was special guest at the function, also praised the Sabha’s social welfare activities.

Punjabi writer Gurmit Palahi presented, on Sabha’s behalf, three demands before the minister.

He pleaded that funds should be provided to the Sabha by industrial houses under their corporate social responsibility schemes, Sabha be associated with the projects of country’s NITI Ayog and the minister should give grant to it from his discretionary funds.

Assuring positively, Minister said that industrial houses should come forward to help such genuine NGOs like Sarb Naujawan Sabha under their Corporate Social Responsibility program.

Sabha’s President Sukhwinder Singh, social activist and minister’s wife Aneeta Som Parkash, BJP leader Avtar Singh Mand, senior journalist T.D. Chawla, writers Jawahar Dheer and Baldev Komal, and industrialist Jatinder Singh Kundi also spoke on the occasion.
