IDCA of Los Angeles celebrates Diwali

November 14
23:05 2011

LOS ANGELES: The Indian Diamond and Colorstone Association (IDCA) of Los Angeles celebrated its 26th anniversary with a Diwali Banquet at a downtown hotel. Attended by about 500 guests the evening began with a social hour and the red carpet.
The main event commenced later in the evening after the social hour. To kick off the evening there was a ceremonial lighting of the lamp and aarti by the ladies of the IDCA family.
Unlike most Indian banquets this event was free of long speeches and mutual back patting. The event planners had done their job to perfection and the evening was all about having a good time.
The entertainment was planned and choreographed by Rakesh Patel and his company. Called “The Bollywood Dance Costumes” the company has its own troupe of artistes and also provides costumes for Bollywood movies being filmed in the United States. Rakesh Patel is also a dentist with a very successful practice.
The stage program commenced with a Bollywood style fashion show. Leading the models on the ramp was Hollywood actress and India Post reporter Magda Marcella. Showcasing a chic two piece outfit Magda sashayed on to the ramp to a loud applause. Extremely talented Magda has it all to make it big in Hollywood, showbiz and the print media.
Recently, her production Miracle Mile Girl was screened at the Beverly Hills Film Festival – a major achievement for Magda, all of 22 years.
Other models followed doing Bollywood dance numbers to popular Bollywood songs. A pair of male dancers enthralled the audience with their acrobatic inspired performance.
Shilpa Mamidi, a former 1st runner up in Miss Asia USA did yet another tantalizing Bollywood performance. Extremely versatile and talented Shilpa has a lot to look forward to.
Nafees Anand from Bombay enthralled the audience with vintage Mohd Rafi songs. In Bombay he is known as the Voice of Mohd Rafi. Not to be left behind was Sare Gama contestant Prachi Shah, also from Bombay. She rocked the hall with a variety of vintage and contemporary songs.
Founded in 1985 IDCA has a current membership of about 110 companies. Each company averages an annual turnover of around 10 to 12 million dollars. Indians play a leading role in the diamond industry thus providing lucrative jobs in and around Surat in Gujarat, India.

It’s a lovely book. It feels energetically clear and light. It’s easy to read, dip in and out and most importantly it offers information without fluff! Blessings on this project.
