PHAGWARA: To mark Doctors Day, members of the Phagwara branch of Indian Medical Association July 2 registered their protest against growing incidents of assaults on doctors and vandalization of hospitals.
Led by local IMA president Dr S. Rajan, the members displayed placards which read “Safety of doctors is everyone’s concern” and “Say no to violence”.
Addressing a function on this occasion, Dr S. Rajan, Dr J.S. Virk, Dr G.B. Singh, Dr R.S. Nagpal, Dr Anoop said that the relationship between a patient and a doctor was sacrosanct.
Nothing should be done to vitiate it, they pleaded and said every doctor does his or her best to cure a patient but if sometimes results are not on desired lines, doctors should not be blamed and attacked.
The attacks on doctors by family members of patients and damage to property of hospitals created a sense of insecurity among them, making them work under pressure, they argued.
They added that it is not in the interest of patients if doctors are not allowed to work in a peaceful and calm atmosphere.
Dr Mohan Singh, Dr Sunil Verma, Dr Ashok Gumber, Dr Chiman Arora, Dr Jasvir Singh and Dr Hans also spoke on the occasion.
