The town of Lachen, located in the northern part of Sikkim, is one of the most beautiful places in India. A small town at an altitude of around 8,838 feet, it lies on the North Sikkim highway; hence access to Lachen is quite easy.
There are many interesting places in and around Lachen that you can visit. Lachen is primarily famous as a sightseeing spot, with its many viewpoints that provide splendid shots of nearby mountains and greenery. You can also travel to Chopta Valley from Lachen, as this scenic destination is located quite near. This valley is famous for hiking and bird watching.
Green Lake is another famous tourist spot near Lachen that is open for tourist access. You can also take a trip to Kanchenjunga National Park, which is located near Lachen and has a wide variety of wildlife. Gurudongmar Lake is another important must-visit destination that is considered sacred by Hindus and Buddhists. However, foreigners are not allowed here as the lake is near the Indo-China border.

Seven Sister’s Waterfall: The Seven Sister’s waterfall is a seven-layered waterfall which can be seen on the way from Gangtok to Lachen.
Singhlik Viewpoint: The Singhik viewpoint is located close to Magan in North Sikkim and offers panoramic views of the Teesta Valley.
Tashi Viewpoint: The Tashi viewpoint is in North Sikkim around 8 km from the city of Gangtok and is a popular scenic spot. From this point, tourists can enjoy great views of Mount Kanchenjunga and Mount Siniolchu. The sunrise view from Tahi point is very famous. While there is no admission fee, tourists can pay Rs 10 to hire binoculars in order to get better and closer views of the enchanting landscape.

The weather in Sikkim will vary depending on the altitude of the given region. The higher regions in Sikkim like Lachen will experience the alpine climate, and the lower regions will enjoy a temperate climate. The main seasons in Lachen are summers, winters and the monsoon. The best time to visit Lachen would be from October to June.
How to reach
By Train: Siliguri and Guwahati are the nearest popular railway stations which are well connected to many other cities. To reach Lachen from here, tourists can take buses or hire taxis.
By Air: Flights can be taken to Bagdogra Airport in the town of Siliguri. Regular flights to many places and destinations, including New Delhi, Guwahati and Kolkata, are available from this airport.
