Every Indian student once in their lifetime dream to get admission into IIT. Almost one in every Indian family motivated their children to prepare for IIT from his/her school days only. JEE Main is considered as one of the toughest engineering entrance exams which is the gateway to one of the prestigious IITs. NTA conducts JEE Main for the candidates who are planning to study at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs among other renowned engineering and technology institutes. Candidates qualifying JEE Main Cutoff will be eligible to take admission in the prestigious engineering institutes.

JEE Main is the first stage of the IIT admission process while JEE Advanced is the second stage which is conducted for admission to the 23 IITs in India. Each year more than 10 lakh candidates enrol for JEE Main but only the top 2.5 lakh test-takers qualify for JEE Advanced.

Admission at IIT colleges across the country starts the admission process in March for PG programs and October for UG programs. Admissions to IITs are based on the candidate’s score in various entrance examinations including JEE Main.

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Main 2020

The essential requirement to give JEE Main 2020 exam is to clear the 10+2 examination. Admission to IIT will be based on the students’ performance in JEE Main and their All India Rank. Though, it also depends on the fact that the candidate must have secured at least 75% marks in the 12th class examination. But for the SC/ST candidates, the qualifying marks are 65% in the 10+2 level.

There are no age limit criteria to appear in JEE Main. However, the students are advised to check the age limit criteria (if any) of the institute; they wish to apply at.

There are a total of 23 IITs in the country that offer a variety of courses ranging from the UG level to the Doctoral programs. While admission to B.Tech courses is based upon the performance in JEE Main and JEE Advanced, admission to the M.Tech program is based on GATE exam. IIT Admission Procedure

India Institute of Technology, which is also known as IIT, constantly has among the top engineering colleges in India and overseas as well. A lot of national and international students apply at IIT to have a great professional career ahead. Lakhs of students aspire to get the admission in IITs for doing their graduation in engineering and technology.

IIT has formed an alliance with various institutions from all over the world for multiple projects and students exchange programs. IIT offers various courses at UG, PG, and Ph.D. level with technology being the major stream.

  • The admission process typically begins in March (for PG programs).
  • Admission to B.Tech is offered to the students based on their scores in JEE Main exam.
  • Admission to M.Tech & M.Des program is granted based on the score obtained in GATE and CEED. IIT conducts its written test and/or interview for selecting the eligible candidates for various courses.
  • Students applying at IIT in 2020 have to clear two exams, JEE Main 2020 and JEE Advanced 2020. For getting admission in IITs, the marks of JEE Main will not decide your rank. Rather rank will be decided on the marks obtained in JEE Advanced which is an entrance exam conducted by IIT for giving admission in 23 IITs in the country.

Once the ranks are declared after the score of JEE Advanced, the students can fill their preferences for the various IITs with a particular stream in them. After that counselling start, and according to the students’ rank and the availability of seat, the process of allotment of seat begins at IIT.

For IIT admission, first of all, the students have to clear JEE Main exam, and then JEE Advanced exam; the application of the qualifying students will be considered forward if they clear both the exams.

The students can apply to the B.Tech program once a year in July through JEE Main and JEE Advanced which is conducted on an all India level. The minimum academic qualification for all these exams is 10+2. For detailed admission in a particular IIT, the students are advised to visit the official site.
