PHAGWARA: The Department of Cultural Affairs at Lovely Professional University(LPU) organized a Holi-eve festival that saw the performance of various Indian folk dances.

The event, ‘Akhil Bhartiya Lok Kala Mahotsav-2019’ was organized at the Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the institute, a varsity release said.

Around 60 renowned 60 artists from the Karnataka Sahasa Kala Academy, Bangalore, and the All India Folk and Tribal Art Parishat, New Delhi, presented their scintillating performances to mesmerize the audience.

The Union Ministry of Culture and the North Zone Cultural Centre (Patiala, Punjab) supported the event.

The artistes from Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Uttrakhand, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir presented traditional dance forms of their respective areas.

Synchronizing with the present festivity days, the ‘Fag’ dance of Haryana depicting Holi festival celebration was much liked by all.

Similarly, the Sirmauri dance of Himachal, Dolu Kunta of Karnataka, Bhangra of Punjab, Kudd of Jammu and Kashmir and Bhavai dance of Rajasthan also enthralled the audience.

LPU Pro- Chancellor Rashmi Mittal appreciated the artistes for upholding the indigenous spirit of all folk and tribal dances.

Mittal was also honoured by the Chairman of All India Festival Committee Nirmal Vaid, Chief Co-ordinator Hasan Raghu and Secretary of All India Folk and Tribal Arts Committee Rajkumar.
