Mayoral candidates meet community groups

CHICAGO: The Indo-American Democratic Organization (IADO) joined over a dozen community organizations to hear directly from Chicago’s mayoral candidates at a Multicultural & Interfaith Forum held last week on Devon Avenue, Chicago.

Over 200 community residents from many diverse communities came to hear from Chicago Mayoral candidates Lori Lightfoot, Paul Vallas, Gery Chico, and Susana Mendoza. A statement was also read on behalf of Toni Preckwinkle who wasn’t able to attend.IADO SUSAN RAM

IADO partnered with some of Chicago’s most active organizations to make sure the needs and issues of the city’s diverse communities are heard and addressed. Each mayoral candidate was asked various questions directly from community organization leaders and from residents who were in attendance.

Established in 1980, IADO is Illinois’ leading political action committee for South Asian American civic engagement and advocacy. IADO has partnered with IL Muslim Civic Coalition, South Asian American Policy & Research Institute/SAAPRI, Muslim Community Center, CAIR – Chicago, West Ridge Chamber of Commerce, Shree Ganesh Temple of Chicago, Jewish Neighborhood Developmental Council, Assyrian Center, Arab American Family Services, Women’s March Chicago, South Asian Civic Engagement Coalition, Asian Americans Advancing Justice, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights/ICIRR and Vote Assyrian.

The Chicago municipal election will be held Tuesday, February 26.
