Indian Consulate commemorates Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary

CHICAGO: The Indian Consulate in Chicago organized a special program November 12 at its premises to commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of the Sikh faith.

The event was attended by a large number of Indian-American community members and friends of India from the US Midwest area.  The program included rendition of hymns from Gurbani by eminent raagis.

1 4Presentations were made on the contribution of Sikh Americans in the US, and the teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak. Commemorative stamps on Guru Nanak brought out by India Post were presented to representatives of the Sikh community and gurdwaras in the US Midwest. 

As part of the celebrations of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the Consulate had earlier organized a special programme October 6 in Oak Creek together with the Wisconsin Sikh Temple, which was attended by about 500 members of the community from Oak Creek and neighboring towns, including city officials.

Consul General Sudhakar Dalela and Consul Ranjit Singh also participated in the 550th birth anniversary celebrations organized by the Sikh Cultural Society of Indiana, Mishawaka, November 3 along with the Indian-American community members from Indiana and neighboring areas.
