Nobel Laureate, top physicians to address AAPI Convention

NEW YORK: The 30th annual convention of American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI) will be held in Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center, California between June 27 and July 1.
Dr. Sunita Kanumury, President of AAPI, said more than 3,500 members representing academicians, researchers, clinicians, medical students, residents, and fellows will be addressing various healthcare related issues during cutting edge educational seminars, panel discussions and lectures by world renowned speakers from across the globe.
Thought provoking speeches, Continuing Medical Education Programs (CME), Women’s conference, yoga for adults, alumni meetings, entertainment by eminent artists and networking will be some of the highlights of the convention.
AAPI has many members in executive positions at their medical institutions. These leaders are making decisions about medical and pharmaceutical products, devices and equipment, and practice-related services at multiple levels in hospitals, medical schools, outpatient centers, and health care facilities, she said.
The convention will offer an opportunity to engage a large influential audience in personalized product discussions and hands-on demonstrations. Additionally, the convention offers a range of marketing and educational opportunities, such as CME sponsorship, publications, exhibitions, and symposium, Dr Kanumury said.
The star speaker at the convention will be Nobel Laureate Bruce Beutler, an American immunologist and geneticist. Together with Jules A. Hoffmann, he received 2011 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, for their discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity.
US Representative Ed Royce (D-CA), and a member of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans will also be a guest at the convention.
The convention will offer over 10 hours of CME credits. “Our programming will feature state-of-the-art clinical content from dynamic world renowned speakers. These carefully selected topics represent areas of medicine that are of high interest and importance to our members,” Dr. Kanumury said.
Noted singers Sonu Nigam, Amit & Sumit Kumar, and comedian Navin Prabhakar will provide the entertainment.

At the end of the convention, Dr. Narendra Kumar, currently AAPI president-elect and Michigan-based Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgeon in Saginaw, Michigan and Medical Director of an Accredited Sleep Diagnostic Facility will take over from Dr. Sunita Kanumury as president for the year 2012-13.
