Pak PM launches poverty alleviation prog

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday launched a mega scheme that aimed at reducing poverty and providing support to vulnerable groups, especially women.
Addressing an event after launching the programme named ‘Ehsas’ (compassion), Khan said his government will amend the Constitution to make the state mandatorily fulfil the basic needs of food, clothes, shelter and health.
He also announced to increase spending for the poor people to Rs 80 billion, which will be further increased to Rs 120 billion by 2020.
Khan also announced to set up a Ministry for Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation.
He said saving accounts will be opened for 5.7 million poor women and mobile phones will be provided to them to access their bank accounts. PTI
