CHICAGO: Amidst heavy rains, about 40 students, including children from Partners of Our Community (POC), visited Palatine Gurdwara Sahib to learn Sikh way to prayers last week.

Iqbal Singh Chopra, Kuldip Singh and other leaders of the Sikh community helped tie turbans on the volunteers. Doris Sra helped with Spanish translation. The students then went to the Deewan Hall where Rajinder Singh, Amrik SIngh and Gurmeet Singh recited a shabad.

These students had gone to POC to learn English too and they were delighted to see their teachers. Sunrinderpal SIngh talked about basic Sikh principles in life. Parminderjit Singh did ardas and took hukumnama (order of the day).

The students’ visit was arranged by Thakar Singh Basati, who is one of the founding members of POC.

POC provides free services to new arrivals in America and have people from Spanish, Arab and Russian countries. It is located at 1585 N Rand Road, Palatine, a northside suburb of Chicago.
