CAMBRIDGE: The biggest challenge for families in present days is how to keep their children in the relaxed mood all the time. “Do not worry, Relax Kids centers have trained coaches to help your kids.

Come and explore how our well-structured mindfulness and meditation programs can help your children manage their stress, anger, and improve their confidence” says Ms. Linda Singer, who works as a Relax Kids coach at Inner Space, Cambridge, MA.

This center arranged free demo sessions for kids along with their parents and other adults on 7 August from 11am to 2 pm.

Ms. Singer has a degree in early childhood education and practices Raja Yoga meditation. She got her Relax Kids Coach certification from London. She has been training for the last 11 years and Relax Kids have now trained over 2,000 coaches from 39 countries and currently have 7 books, 13 albums, and kids’ friendly websites. In 2011, a Health Care project won the Nursing Standards National Award – using the Relax Kids methods.

Ms. Singer proudly explained that there are a number of ways you can introduce relaxation into your home: before and after school, at bedtime, setting up a Chill out Corner, Weekly Family Chill Night. Introducing a routine of relaxation will bring wealth of benefits for you and your child.

She also mentioned that her Relax Kids techniques are widely used in schools, nurseries, special schools, behavioral units, children’s homes, foster homes, hospitals, dentists, doctors’ surgeries and libraries.

They help children cope with a range of stressful situations including bullying, exams, divorce, bereavement, long term illness, hospital and doctor’s appointments.

According to Relax Kids, its techniques have had a positive effect on children with autism, hyperactivity, stress, sleeping problems, trauma, and Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), disruptive behavior, depression, low self-esteem, and anger and anxiety issues. Relax Kids’ strategies mimic clinically-proven anger management and mitigation treatments such as therapeutic exercise and yoga, breathing and mindfulness exercises as anger management tools, meltdown moments or methods to make time-outs constructive rather than punitive.

A friendly and smiling Merrillyn Hener, who is a Coordinator and Meditation teacher at the center, says that Relax Kids is an exciting event that teaches kids of all ages to learn about inner values in a unique and fun way. “It taught me several ways to make them more imaginative and creative and build their self-confidence” said a mother of two kids.
