Shaitan bahu
Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin made their first appearance post-marriage in Delhi. The question at the press conference most addressed to Anurag was, “Toh bataiye, real life mein kitni shaitan hain Kalki?” Anurag’s answers were a variation of, “Uff, bilkul evil.” Finally, Kalki said, “I’m white but I have a black heart,” and giggled into Anurag’s shoulder.
Another common one was, “How has it been after marriage?” Anurag’s replies were again a variation on, “Jab se shaadi hui hai woh ghar mein chaar din rahi hai. Pehle Latur mein thi, shooting for (Dibakar Banerjee’s) “Shanghai”, and now we’re traveling for “Shaitan”, and then she’ll leave to promote “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”. Main to tab se wait hi kar raha hoon.” Kalki cuddled up into him and said, “You’ve been waiting for me all your life.” Anurag’s pet peeve was that since the marriage, they’ve been “romancing each other on Skype for a month.” Kalki mentioned that Anurag wasn’t romantic and sweet to her at all when they started seeing each other. “He was… Ugh!” she said, “I don’t know why I felt anything for him then. I think I just felt sorry for him!”
Questions on domesticity came a close third. “I’m the housewife,” Anurag declared. “Main ghar pe rehta hoon wearing an apron; she wears the pants and goes out and earns money, and I take all her money and make films with it. I know how to cook and do the housework, but I don’t usually do it.
Chai toh main tab banata hoon jab naaraaz hoti hai,” while Kalki gasped theatrically and said, “Hey, I’m the one who makes tea for him! Every morning I make adrak chai!”
When everyone asked Kalki about Anurag making a romantic film for her, she said, “You’ve touched a sensitive nerve here. I love romcoms, I’m a sweet, innocent girl, but because of this big bad man, people keep casting me in these dark, edgy movies assuming I’m like that too.”
