Sikh senior citizens visit MAFS in Schaumburg

CHICAGO: Sikh senior citizens from Chicago visited MAFS (Metro Asian Family Services) Center inSchaumburg to discuss basic principles of Sikhism last week.

MAFS wasstarted in Chicago to provide family services but expanded fastunder the leadership of Santosh Kumar. The Schaumburg facility is the seventh for MAFS. It provides fresh Indian lunch, transportation services, help in social security and Immigration issues and provides entertainment with birthday and anniversary celebrations.

The program was organized by Thakar Singh Basati. Jasbir Kaur Mann, who helps MAFS in Schaumburg, said arrangements would be made to bring these Sikh senior citizens to Palatine Gurdwara Sahib soon.

The Sikh senior citizens started the program with Ardas by head granthy of Palatine Gurdwara Sahib Parminderjit Singh. Jasbir Singh Bhalla recited shabad with the help of a rabab-like string instrument. hMohinder Singh, who served Palatine Gurdwara Sahib for 27 years as head granthy and is now serving sWheaton Gurdwara Sahib, recited a Shabad. Surinderpal Singh talked about basic principles of nSikhism,kirt karni (honest earning), naam japna (reciting god’s name) and vand chakna (Share). Professor Kulwant Singh Hundal talked about the give thieves in our mind – kaam (Lust), krodh (anger), lobh(greed),moh(attachment) and hankaar (ego) – and how to control them.
