FREMONT, CA: Rising Freshman from Saratoga High School Siva Sambasivam was recognized as one of the top 12 Congressional Debaters in the country at the 2016 Middle School National Speech and Debate Association National Tournament in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Siva participated in Congressional Debate and competed against 84 other students from across the nation. The competition was a simulation of “The United States Congress” and students debated a wide range of foreign and domestic policy initiatives.

Participants were provided over 40 topics to discuss during the three day tournament and topics included “Taking Action Against North Korea”, “Increasing military and economic aid to Jordan”, “Banning the Use of Cellular Devices while Driving”, and “Mandating Compulsory Voting in the United States”.

Siva was selected by judge panels to advance to the semi-finals and then the finals round of the competition.

Speech and Debate not only provides Siva an avenue to advocate ideas, but also gives him a better understanding of United States initiatives and issues. He is excited about continuing to debate in high school and is looking forward to becoming involved in policy initiatives in his local government as well.
