The Korean band members have arrived at Dimapur, the media coordinator of HIMF, Kallol Dey, said.

Boney M and Kailash Kher performed in 2017 and this year it would be a treat for Korean Pop fans with the MONT set to take centre stage on December 4, he said.

The MONT is being touted as the next big name in the K-Pop world, he said, adding, the band impressed in Mix Nine, a South Korean survival reality show.

The Hornbill International Music Festival (HIMF), kicked off on Saturday, December 1, in Dimapur and it is a part of the Hornbill Festival.

The biggest draw of the music fest, the Hornbill International Rock Contest (HIRC), will be held between December 5 and December 8, the media coordinator of HIMF said.

The event went international in 2013 and with the Nagaland government keen on developing music as an industry, the Hornbill Festival has been promoted as a music destination over the years, with both international and national big names roped in to perform in every edition, Dey said.

The rock contest carries a cash award of Rs 10 lakh for the winner and Rs 5 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh for the first and second runners-up respectively, he said.

A total of 24 bands, including five from Nagaland, will contest in this edition, he said.

The penultimate day of the festival, December 9, will feature Soulmate, a Shillong-based blues band, he said.

With numerous national and international performances, Soulmate is a household name for fans of the genre, Dey said.

The 10-day music festival will culminate with Ukranian DJ Siana Catherine on the console, he said. PTI
