‘Sunehri Yaadein’ celebrates Bollywood’s Golden Era of music

FREMONT, CA: Star Entertainment presented “The 1950-1980 Musical Journey of Bollywood Era – Sunehri Yaadein” at Chandni Restaurant on Friday, September 6. The memorable event was organized by Peter Sahjani and Dahya Mistry, two talented performers of Bay area. The event was planned meticulously by Peter Sahjani and Dahya Mistry and showcased the best ever show with Live band and singers in Bay.

As the name suggest “Sunehri Yaadein” was a beautiful journey of Bollywood’s Golden Era. The show started at 7:45 pm with the finest singers of Bay area transporting the audience to ‘1970s’ with their breathtaking rendition of evergreen numbers of legendary singers Mohd Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Mukesh, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle.

Mandeep Singh opened the evening with his performance of “Aaj ki Raat” from Dilip Kumar’s Ram aur Shaam. This was followed by melodies of Lata Mangeshkar and Vani Jayram by Anuja Surlaker and Rajini Vijay.

Sachin Srivastava rocked the stage by rendering the Bollywood Badshah Amitabh Bachchan’s songs. Guest singers were Ria Nilawar, Sreedhar Ganapaty and Nidheesh Dubey. Daya Mistry, Organizer of the show enthralled the crowd by singing Roop tera Mastana and other popular medley.

Robin John, the Lead Keyboard player was accompanied by support Keyboard player Krishnamurthy Kalvai, Base Guitarist Faran Mohamed, Lead Guitarist Tamal Dey, Handsonic Raj Iyer, Drummer Arun Narasimhan and Gurjeet Hira on Tabla.

Peter Sahjani, Organizer of Sunehri Yaadein performed the act of Dev Anand from the movie “Guide” and sang Shammi Kapoor melodies.

The film “Guide” is based on the critically acclaimed novel, The Guide, by R. K. Narayan, and is widely considered to be one of the masterpieces of the Indian film industry. Guide was also the first film to win all four of the major awards (Best Movie, Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress) at the Filmfare Awards. Peter Sahjani, who has a close resemblance to Dev Anand, acted the masterpiece with utmost perfection. He considers Dev Anand as his godfather and has a passion towards Bollywood’s Golden era, which is the driving force for memorable events such as Sunehri Yaadein.

Elena Elsoukov, who has been performing various dance styles in Bay Area for the past few years like Indian Classical, Belly Dance & Bollywood numbers, mesmerized the audience by her classical moves from Bobby and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam.

The highlight of the evening was a 1970s Retro-Style fashion show by Jyotica Bhatia. The models dressed up in 1970s style showcased the collection on music of the era. Costume courtesy for the fashion show was Malabis Couture. The finale of the fashion show was enhanced by Saxophonist Puneet. Dance performers were from Dil Se and JB Fashion.

The Grand Sponsor of the event were Dinesh Kumar of India Cash & Carry, Platinum sponsor Garry of Chaat Bhavan & Park Balluchi and the Gold sponsor Charanjit of Uppal Dental Care. Smitha Deepak, Anchor of WomenNowTV and Jayshri Sharma, a tech professional and Radio Host of Radio Dehotties on 1170am were the Emcees of the event. Menon Ramakrishna presented a birthday portrait to Peter Sahjani.
