Virginia Supreme Court says Diwali lights can’t be prohibited on homes

RICHMOND, Virginia: One of the biggest festivals for Indian-Americans here, Diwali, is round the corner and cheering up the mood of the community across the country, the Supreme Court of Virginia has ruled, in the case of Sainani v. Belmont Glen Homeowners Association, that homeowner associations cannot prohibit lights being put up for Diwali and other holidays.
The Hindu American Foundation (HAF) had filed an amicus brief in this case and it is pleased now that a precedent has been set that can be cited across the country.
